BELLE CHASSE, La (press release) – The Plaquemines Parish Fair and Orange Festival takes place on Dec. 1-3 at historic Fort Jackson in Buras, marking its 77th year of celebrating Plaquemines Parish’s citrus heritage and showcasing the bounties that Plaquemines Parish has to offer.

The three-day festival pays homage to centuries of citrus farming in Plaquemines Parish with live music, local food, family activities, civil war reenactments and carnival rides. The fair also gives attendees a chance to show their skill in an array of contests, including: kumquat stuffing, orange eating, orange peeling, duck calling, shrimp de-heading, catfish skinning, and oyster shucking.

This year’s festival royalty, King Jeff Edgecombe, Queen Catherine Blondiau, Teen Queen Amy Hochhalter and Blossom Ellie Landry, will be recognized during the event.

“We’re thrilled to once again – for the 77th year – celebrate this fantastic festival in such a unique setting at historic Fort Jackson on the banks of the Mississippi River. We will have live music, and the fort will be open to visitors with tours and reenactments on the hour,” said Cynthia Wooton, Plaquemines Parish Fair and Orange Festival spokesperson.  “Please come out for an amazing weekend of music, food, carnival rides and fun for the entire family.”
