Brenna Huckaby, a three-time gold medalist, will represent her hometown of Baton Rouge in the upcoming 2026 Winter Paralympics on the USA Snowboarding Team.

Coinciding with the 2026 Winter Olympics, this year’s Winter Paralympics takes place in Milano Cortina, Italy, on March 6, two weeks after the conclusion of the Olympics.

On Instagram, Huckaby posted a video informing her followers that the Paralympics happen parallel to the Olympics and encouraging them, writing, “Take a break for two weeks from your Olympic high, and get ready to cheer again for Team USA in the Paralympics!”

According to the International Paralympic Committee, the “para” in Paralympic derives from the Greek preposition “para,” which means beside or alongside.

Thus, as the organization states on its website, “Paralympics are the parallel Games to the Olympics and illustrate how the two movements exist side-by-side.”
