Free Community Screening of The Mamma Joe Project in Lake Charles

LAKE CHARLES, La (press release) – The Mamma Joe Project, in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association of Louisiana, announced a free screening event of the documentary “My Mama Joe, Hope & Help.” This community engagement forum will take place on Friday, Aug. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Southlake Theater in Lake Charles.
The evening will include:
- A one-hour screening of My Mama Joe: Hope & Help
- A 45-minute panel discussion with local experts who include:

- Delores Hurst – Executive Director, Alzheimer’s Association–Louisiana
- Kelly G. Loeb – Medicare Counselor and Film Participant
- Dr. Christal Williams – McNeese State University

The event aims to raise awareness about dementia, caregiving, brain health and healthy aging. In addition to the film and discussion, guests will receive a comprehensive reference guide and have the opportunity to connect with local resource vendors.

About the Mamma Joe Project:
The Mamma Joe Project is an impactful multimedia and outreach initiative focused on Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and elder care. At its core is the documentary My Mama Joe: Hope & Help, which chronicles the life of JoeAnna “Mama Joe” Caldwell, a community leader and advocate diagnosed with Alzheimer’s dementia in 2015. The film intertwines her legacy of service with the challenges of caregiving, offering an intimate look at the realities of chronic illness.
Directed by her son, Herb Caldwell, the documentary aims to raise awareness and provide resources for caregivers, highlighting the importance of self-care and support. The screenings have received a heartfelt response, and the project plans to showcase the film in 37 states and internationally by summer 2026.
