Baton Rouge Bicentennial
From Indian tribes to Spanish battles, a civil war and the civil rights movement — Baton Rouge, the “Red Stick” city by the River, has been at the center of American history and Louisiana for over 200 years. After Louisiana’s acceptance into the Union in 1812, Baton Rouge was officially incorporated in 1817. Since becoming the state’s capital city in 1849, Baton Rouge has grown into the second largest city in Louisiana and transformed from a small river town to a Southern metropolis. Baton Rouge is home to both Louisiana State University, as well as Southern University. It has an amazing music and food scene with eclectic tastes and sounds representing the rich culture of the area. The city blends its rich history and architecture seamlessly with its growing arts scene. Tour a plantation, take in an art show at a local gallery or experience the countless events dedicated to the city’s bicentennial. 2017 is shaping up to be the best year yet for our Louisiana capital.
