Plaquemines Parish Fair & Orange Festival began in 1947 to promote the cultivation and marketing of the parish’s thriving citrus crop. Although devastating freezes and hurricanes over the decades — Betsy, Camille and Katrina — threatened to end citrus production, the parish’s growers and residents persevered.
Since returning home to Fort Jackson in 2010, organizers say the festival has remained one of Louisiana’s most anticipated holiday season traditions.
