The Plaquemines Parish Fair and Orange Festival Celebrates Citrus Heritage at Historic Fort Jackson

BELLE CHASSE, La (press release) – The Plaquemines Parish Fair and Orange Festival returns Dec. 6-8 at the historic Fort Jackson in Buras, marking its 78th year of celebrating Plaquemines Parish’s rich citrus heritage. This annual event highlights the agricultural abundance and vibrant culture of the parish with a festive lineup for all ages.

The three-day festival pays homage to centuries of citrus farming in Plaquemines Parish, featuring live music, local cuisine, family-friendly activities, carnival rides, and unique contests. Attendees can showcase their skills in a variety of competitions, including kumquat stuffing, orange eating, orange peeling, duck calling, shrimp de-heading, catfish skinning and oyster shucking.

This year’s festival royalty includes King Wayne Cognevich, Queen Alayna Robichaux, Teen Queen Gracie Gondrella, and Blossom Orange Blossom Olivia Munsterman, who will be honored throughout the event.

  • Friday: Carnival open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Saturday: Festival open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
    • 11 a.m. – BC Boyz Band
    • 2 p.m. – R&R Smokin’ Foundation
    • 6 p.m. – Paper Chase
  • Sunday: Festival open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    • 11 a.m. – Louisiana Landfall
    • 2 p.m. – Nashville South
