The United States has long been… intriguing to those outside of the country. As someone who follows British pop culture pretty well, the British people especially find us as Americans, and as a country, interesting. See also the current debate of who would win in a fight: 100 Americans or 100 British people, which has had the two pinned against each other once again.

From our food to our sports and all that’s in between, you can understand how different we may look to outsiders. Add in our political climate, and the conversation is endless.

Recently, social media duo Jase and Josh have come back to the US and are traveling around Louisiana. So far, they’ve tried crawfish, king cake, participated in a frog croaking contest, went on an alligator tour and had their first drive-thru daiquiri experience.

Lake Charles:

L’Auberge Casino & Resort

The two ended up here after driving in from Shreveport on the recommendation of the hotel’s director of marketing.

Mac’s

4015 Broad St.

We couldn’t find a website but believe this is the restaurant’s Facebook page. The duo tried their first tray of crawfish here and while the spice was a bit much for them, clearly no one showed them how to eat the crawfish as they bit straight into the shell.

Darrell’s

119 W College St.

Here the two try a po’boy for the first time, each opting for one with meat on it. We’re more seafood po’boy people, but to each their own.

Scott:

Billy’s Boudin & Cracklins

1815 St. Mary St.

The way they mispronounced boudin so many times in this video had us like nails on a chalkboard. They ended up back in another video to try cracklins and, thankfully, said boudin correctly.

Uncle T’s Oyster Bar

1001 St. Mary St.

As I’m sure you can guess, they tried oysters.

Arnaudville:

Little Big Cup

149 Fuselier Rd.

The Bloody Mary here looked insanely good with the perfect kick. And they just went in on the shrimp tails. It’s truly something watching people eat our food.

Rayne:

They went to the Frog Festival and ate alligator on a stick. “It tastes like chicken.” They also participated in a frog eating competition, as well as a frog croaking contest. While they did not win the eating contest, Jase shockingly took home the crown in the croaking competition.

Houma:

Big Mike’s BBQ

3034 Barrow St.

Not surprisingly, they tried barbecue. This is a fan favorite spot of our marketing director.

Daiquiri & Company

If you’re from Louisiana, you can imagine there are lots of these establishments all over most cities. They’ve got a gallon sized for “Sunday Funday” and it’s safe to say our idea of the right amount of alcohol may not be everyone’s idea of the right amount of alcohol.

Big Al’s

1377 West Tunnel Blvd.

They headed to Big Al’s to finally try gumbo. “Maybe it’s like a Cajun hot chocolate!” It’s not… but at least they loved gumbo. Even opting to dunk a crawfish into their chicken and sausage gumbo.

TARC

The boys headed to the organization’s Bayou Country Cafe in Houma to learn about the organization, the people it serves and they said they ate some good food.

Lake Hackberry:

They tried an alligator swamp tour with Cajun Man’s Swamp Tours and Captain Billy. They fed alligators and seemed to genuinely appreciate the beauty of the swamp.

Baton Rouge

Louisiana State University

The guys head to LSU and meet Mike the Tiger. They were very confused why we have a tiger just hanging out on campus. They also headed to the football training center and got to play around.

Elsie’s Plate & Pie

3145 Government St.

Josh tried the boudin burger and Jase had the crawfish pie. They said this was a highly suggested spot in Baton Rouge.

New Orleans

The unfortunately arrived the day the inmates escaped from the Orleans Parish Prison, as well as the infamous Annabelle doll’s arrival in the city, but it seems like they still ended their trip on a positive.

Cafe du Monde

800 Decatur St.

They headed to try some traditional New Orleans beignets in the French Quarter.

Bourbon Street

Someone suggested they needed to head to Bourbon Street and they tried way too many Hand Grenade drinks for our liking

Mother’s Restaurant

401 Poydras St,

They claimed this was a highly suggested restaurant and they both tried crawfish etouffee. They think it tastes like “a Louisiana curry.”

Pascal’s Manale

1838 Napoleon Ave.

They headed to the city staple to try turtle soup for the first time. Josh couldn’t get past the fact that it was a turtle. Jase, like the rest of us in Louisiana, ate and appreciated it.

It is something to note that the duo started their Louisiana trip in Shreveport. Though Shreveport is full of history and things to do, they shared their trip to what they called the worst hotel. They did not, however, stay in the city after their motel experience and instead opted to travel from Shreveport to Lake Charles. It was interesting that the duo would drive from Houston, Texas to Shreveport, but who are we to judge if they have a list of things they want to do.
