NATCHITOCHES, La (press release) – Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts (LSMSA) announced that Louisiana artist Joshua Chambers is the first exhibition of 2026, on display through Feb. 26 in the Sharon Turcan Gahagan Art Gallery.

Chambers, a Professor of Visual Arts at Centenary College in Shreveport, creates work in a style echoing the philosophy of absurdist playwrights through deconstructed sets.

On his website, Chambers writes, “Using acrylic, gouache, watercolor and ink, I build symbolic landscapes inhabited by animals, masked figures and theatrical props, each representing fragments of my personal mythology. Influenced by a background in theatrical set design and a fascination with absurdist literature, my compositions often take on a surreal, dreamlike quality, reflecting on how we perform identity, mask vulnerability and search for connection in a fractured world.”

Since receiving his Master of Fine Arts from Louisiana Tech University in 2009 and a Bachelor of Arts from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma, Chambers’ work has been published in New American Paintings, Creative Quarterly and Studio Visit Magazine.

His work can currently be found at:

  • Graphite Galleries in New Orleans
  • Ann Connelly Fine Art in Baton Rouge
  • The Agora Borealis in Shreveport
  • Masur Museum of Art in Louisiana
  • Lessedra Gallery in Bulgaria
  • Numerous private collections
This solo LSMSA exhibition is open for viewing Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. The gallery is located inside the Center for Performance and Technology on campus at 715 University Pkwy., Natchitoches, La 71457.
