A new nonprofit, MeowWOOF Animal Collective Café (2905 E. Simcoe Street), offers a unique community space for spending time with adoptable cats and dogs or your own pets. Guests can enjoy coffee while interacting with freely roaming cats at the cozy cat café. A separate dog patio provides an outdoor-style setting. Two self-wash dog grooming stations and a pet-inspired boutique are among the bonuses of this new community center featuring healthy rescued animals.
Honoring a Prodigious Poet
New Orleans resident Gina Ferrara is Louisiana’s new Poet Laureate. Among her many accomplishments, Ferrara has led The Poetry Buffet featuring monthly readings by Louisiana poets since 2007, a format she plans to implement during her two-year term as Poet Laureate. An English professor at Delgado Community College, Ferrara has five poetry collections and her work has appeared in many journals.

The Trans-Siberian Orchestra performs Ghosts of Christmas Eve, The Best of TSO in a dazzling, multifaceted concert blending rock opera and classic holiday music with elaborate pyrotechnics (December 17) at New Orleans’ Smoothie King Center. Vocalists transform pop, rock and hip-hop hits into unique renditions inspired by swing, jazz and Motown, presented with nostalgic showbiz flair.
Shreveport | Musical Milestone
Shreveport’s newest music center, the Louisiana Grandstand, debuts its first Artist Ambassador Program featuring Shreveport native superstars Kix Brooks (of Brooks & Dunn) and country hitmaker Jordan Davis as mentors for selected emerging artists. Emulating Shreveport’s legendary Louisiana Hayride that launched Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, the Artist Ambassador Program is fostering a new platform for local artists. Extras include providing on-site studio time and opportunities to perform as a show opener for concert headliners.
