Editor’s Note: Oh, the places to go

Reine

I love reading bucket lists. Even if I’m not able to check off every  item on one, it’s fun to get ideas for places I would’ve never imagined. But if you don’t know, you can’t go, so it’s worthwhile to take a few minutes and read about all of the amazing things the state has to offer. In this issue, Cheré Coen highlights several bucket list items to see and do around Louisiana.

Poverty Point has long been on my list of places to visit, and I was so close last time I was in Jackson — I just didn’t have the time. This UNESCO World Heritage site includes a 400-acre village that dates to between 1650 and 700 B.C. It’s hard to believe that we have such a carefully preserved place like that here.

The next time I’m in Breaux Bridge, I’m definitely going to visit Buck & Johnny’s for their Saturday Zydeco Breakfast. While I don’t know how to two-step, I have no qualms about getting out there and giving it a try. Fueled by caffeine and a quest for a good time, I’m betting it will happen.

I’ve done several on Cheré’s list, but one I can’t believe I’m confessing here in black and white is that I’ve never been to an LSU home game. I knoww! And I’ve lived here my whole life. It’s not for lack of wanting to — somehow it’s just never happened. But there’s still time. I’m adding it to my list.

Now I’ve got an app where I can pin places I’d like to go, things I want to do, coffeeshops I need to try, so every time I read about one, it gets pinned. And then when I travel, I can check my list out and see if any bucket list spots are there, take a little detour and make it happen.

Here’s hoping you have lots of new detours and adventures this month.

Cheers!
