Impractical Magic: Halloween Pop-Up in New Orleans
The Eliza Jane Hotel in New Orleans hosts Impractical Magic, a Halloween pop-up for a festive cocktail hour and the perfect spooky photos
New Orleans is known for its iconic holiday light displays and cocktail offerings at hotels throughout the city. People flock downtown during the winter, hopping from The Roosevelt to The Ritz, the Hotel Monteleone to The Royal Sonesta, and finally Omni Royal Orleans.
The holiday hotel stroll throughout the city is an affordable and easy outing for friend groups, families and couples to get into the holiday spirit, take the perfect seasonal photo, try the latest holiday cocktails and explore the city’s beautiful light displays. It makes sense why the adventure is so popular. After all, there is no admission cost. You can split Uber costs and walk to and from all of the hotels. And who doesn’t love an excuse to get dressed up and have a drink?
For a little over a month, this experience encapsulates the magic of both the season and the city. But what about before then?
The Magic of the Spooky Season
Organizers at The Eliza Jane Hotel realized there was a lack of Halloween and fall experiences like the winter holiday ones at other hotels. Utilizing its naturally decorative and historic courtyard hidden between 19th-century warehouses, The Eliza Jane created its own Halloween experience: Impractical Magic.
Impractical Magic is a Halloween pop-up experience with haunting yet romantic nooks, six picturesque cocktails, tasty themed bites and a truly unique atmosphere.
Impractical Magic at The Eliza Jane Hotel
I had the opportunity to enjoy the pop-up myself on its opening night, and I was genuinely impressed by the idea and the execution. The decorations and overall ambiance take guests into a magical, witchy world, thoughtfully curated for the girls’ night-out Instagram photos, a seasonal date, the Halloween enthusiast or anyone looking to spook up their night.
Looking around me, I was constantly finding new sights of tasteful decor displayed against the old brick from the 1800’s – brick that already fits the theme and season, having existed long before us and holding the memories of those who worked within its walls long ago. Among those is Eliza Jane Nicholson, the publisher who transformed a local penny paper, The Daily Picayune, into a national institution. Named after the pioneering woman and built within The Daily Picayune’s walls, The Eliza Jane Hotel is the perfect spot for a spooky pop-up concept.
Impractical Magic runs every evening until Nov. 2. Hours: 6 – 10 p.m. (Sunday – Thursday) and 6 p.m. – 12 a.m. (Friday and Saturday)
